I think the gay guys just tend to look after themselves more with grooming and makeup.
As for the lesbians, there are a lot of ugly ones and I'm not sure why. You do get the odd good looking one though. Most bi chicks are attractive.

Ugly is in the eye of the beholder. Lots of 'ugly' women are heterosexual as well.

I didn't realise Margie was gay. In tonight's episode on the speed dating segment, a couple of the male guests kissed her on the cheek in greeting, and she rubbed her hands together and said 'might get lucky tonight'.
In any case, I wouldn't say she's ugly - as in you want to stick a fork in your eyes after looking at her. Don't think you'd look twice at her if you passed her in the street.

They're not "A lot" ugly. In fact a lot of these women are more visually attractive than the straight women.

I don't think it's a case of a lot of ugly women being lesbians. I think the ration of ugly lesbians is probably the same as ugly straight women. I think the fact that some lesbians choose to wear less flattering clothing, don't wear make-up and often carry themselves in a more 'butch' way means that they can be seen as less attractive, when in fact they're aesthetically not. The lesbians I know are mostly pretty beautiful, even the ones who are more butch, I certainly know more gorgeous lesbians than ugly ones. So I don't think it's true that a lot of ugly women are lesbians.
There's also the theory that 'all the good looking men are gay' well that's not really true either. I think that comes from women’s disappointment when she finds a man attractive and then finds out he's gay. Gay men often take care of themselves pretty well too, have nice hair, wear fashionable clothing, and some wear make-up (even just foundation) and so can appear to be more attractive.
